Facebook Syrilda Tharpe Foreman: Come, Let us Reason Together: Teaching My Son to Think: "Today, JT wanted to know why God put the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden.

Because I did not rush to answer, his response was, 'You don't really know do you?' I was tempted to say, 'Oh no he did not just say that!' but instead, I laughed to myself, thinking that I don't have a PhD in theology, but I did have a PhD in hearing from God and thought we'd reason our way to the answer together. This idea satisfied him and he was again ready to embark on a Mommy/Teacher 'reasoning journey.'

I said, 'Well, Jason, let’s think about it. Let's reason it out…what do we know about God?'
He said, 'Well, He loves life.'
Enthusiastically, I said, 'Yes! He is life itself. And what else? What else do we know?'
He thought for a moment and said,'Well, He is love.' Again, I said,' Yes!!'
The teacher bugs in me were all buzzing and glowing inside at this point. I could hardly contain my joy."
JT went on to ultimately conclude, "So, He put the tree there because He loves us!?"
All aglow with the pride of a loving mother whose juiciest joy is to see people's lights turn on, I exclaimed, "Yes!!!! Yes...JT. You get it!"

JT's initial reasoning was that God should not have put the tree in the garden iin the first place if it would give Adam and Eve the option to sin. I had to agree that it would seem that way. It was almost as if it was a dirty little trick God had played on Adam and Eve.

But, what we know about God is that He loves us so much that He wants us to have "life and more life" by choosing Him the way He chooses us. He wants us to have life by choosing Him and His way! When we trust God's directives, we can always be assured that His purpose for doing something is for our highest and best good, because He knows the beginning from the end. Only God looks into time from eternity and knows the beginning from the end. So, in following God's directives, we are saying we love Him and we trust Him. In God's terms, this is real life and real love. People choosing each other over and over again - God choosing people over and over again.

I imagine that God's teacher bugs were buzzing and glowing too.
